beachstartup comments on "Agony to ecstasy: on taking children to museums"

By beachstartup

this is exactly right. when i took piano lessons as a child my parents would chide me if i decided to try to learn songs i wanted to learn on my own (blues, pops, rock). they would literally prevent me from learning what i wanted, which would just manifest in reluctance in learning what they wanted me to learn (basically nothing but classical). lose-lose.

good intentions, shockingly terrible execution. i still give them grief for that today. it’s a great example of smart people doing stupid things.

also, perhaps it isn’t a great idea to spend 4 hours straight in a single place walking in circles with a young child.

all these little things are what build resentment in children, not the big ideas.
